GAF Roof Repair in San Antonio: What to Know First

GAF roof repair in San Antonio usually runs between $350 and $1,400 depending on what failed, and most jobs are done in a single visit. We’re an independent GAF service provider, which means we repair GAF shingle systems every week but don’t answer to GAF corporate, so our recommendations are based on what actually holds up in South Texas weather, not what a warranty brochure says. If you own a GAF roof and you’ve spotted a leak, missing shingle, or rusted flashing, call (361) 209-8857 and we’ll get you a written price before any work starts.

This page is for San Antonio homeowners who had GAF Timberline, GAF Royal Sovereign, or GAF HDZ shingles installed and now need a repair that will actually last. We’ll cover what fails on these roofs, what repairs cost, and why our GAF work comes with a 365-day guarantee in writing.

How GAF Products Fail – and How We Fix Them

  • GAF Timberline HDZ seal strip delamination. The HDZ line uses a wider sealant strip than older GAF shingles, and in San Antonio’s July heat, that sealant can cure too fast if the shingles were installed on a cooler morning. The tabs lift, wind gets under them, and you lose shingles in the first good storm. We replace the affected field shingles and re-seal the perimeter with a sealant rated for the same temperature range GAF specifies, so the fix doesn’t fail the same way. This is one of the most common GAF repairs we do in Alamo Heights and Stone Oak.
  • GAF Royal Sovereign cracking at the nail line. Royal Sovereign is GAF’s 3-tab economy line, and it’s thin. After ten or twelve years of San Antonio sun, the shingle gets brittle and cracks right at the nail point, which is exactly where water finds its way in. We see this all the time on older homes in Jefferson and Beacon Hill. The fix is sectional replacement, and we’ll tell you honestly if the rest of the slope is heading the same direction.
  • GAF Timberline Ultra HD granule loss around roof penetrations. GAF’s high-definition shadow line looks great new, but the granule layer near vent pipes and chimneys wears faster because that’s where runoff concentrates. When the granules go, the asphalt underneath oxidizes and the shingle starts to erode. We replace the worn field around the penetration and reset the vent boot or flashing at the same time so the whole area is sealed as one system.
  • GAF starter strip failure at the eave edge. A lot of GAF roofs we inspect have starter shingles that were nailed too high, which leaves the lower edge of the first course unsupported. Over time the shingle sags, the eave edge opens up, and wind-driven rain gets under the first course. The fix is lifting the first course, installing new GAF or equivalent starter correctly, and re-setting the shingles so the sealant engages. This is a small repair that prevents a big leak.
  • Flashing failures at GAF roof-to-wall transitions. GAF shingles don’t fail at the wall, the step flashing does. We regularly open up roof-to-wall lines in older San Antonio neighborhoods and find the original flashing was either never replaced at re-roof time or was improvised with scrap metal. We cut out the old flashing, install new galvanized or aluminum step flashing, then weave it into the existing GAF courses so the repair matches the roof and sheds water properly.

Our GAF Roof Repair Process

  1. 1
You call, a live person answers. No voicemail loop. You’ll describe what you’re seeing, and we’ll ask the right questions: age of the roof, where the leak shows up, what type of GAF shingle you have if you know it.
  2. 2
We diagnose on site. Our tech gets on the roof, finds the actual failure point, and documents it with photos. We don’t guess from the ground.
  3. 3
You get a written price before any work starts. The number on the estimate is the number on the invoice. If we find unexpected damage mid-repair, we stop, photograph it, and get your approval on the change in writing before touching anything else.
  4. 4
We decide on OEM vs. aftermarket together. For warranty-sensitive GAF roofs, we recommend GAF-branded or GAF-approved materials. For older roofs where warranty is already gone, a quality aftermarket equivalent often makes more sense. We show you the trade-off and let you choose.
  5. 5
The repair is done right, then tested. We water-test the repair area before we leave, check the surrounding shingles for hidden damage, and take after-photos so you can see exactly what changed.
  6. 6
You get a 365-day written guarantee. Every GAF repair we do carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the repair fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge.

What GAF Roof Repair Costs in San Antonio

Here’s what we typically see on GAF roofs in San Antonio. These are real ranges for single-family homes, not a bait number to get a foot in the door.

  • Single shingle replacement (a few tabs lost to wind): $250 to $450
  • Vent boot replacement (GAF roof penetration, cracked rubber): $300 to $500
  • Flashing repair (chimney or wall line, one section): $400 to $800
  • Valley repair (worn valley shingles or metal): $500 to $900
  • Flat roof patch on a GAF low-slope system: $400 to $850
  • Multi-area leak repair (two or more penetration points): $700 to $1,400

What moves the price: roof pitch (steeper costs more), accessibility, how many shingle courses we have to lift, and whether the decking underneath is still sound. If the deck is rotted, that’s a separate line item you approve before we touch it. Call (361) 209-8857 for an exact quote, free.

Why San Antonio Homeowners Call Crestview Roofing Co San Antonio for GAF Work

Most roofers in San Antonio can nail a shingle. Not many can tell you which GAF series you have, how it fails, and whether a repair is worth doing on your particular roof. That’s what we do. Dylan Pace built our crew on straight estimates that don’t balloon after the contract is signed, and every repair leaves with a written guarantee that covers the work for 365 days. If it fails, we come back free. We also work with Owens Corning and CertainTeed systems, so if your GAF roof is at the end of its life, we’ll give you an honest replacement quote across brands instead of pushing one line.
