Boral Shingle Repair: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
If you have a Boral roof and you’ve spotted cracked, missing, or blown-off shingles, we can match the profile and color and get it repaired. Most Boral shingle repairs in San Antonio run between $325 and $650 for a small patch job (a few shingles plus labor), while larger repairs involving underlayment or decking work can push into the $750 to $1,200 range. We keep common Boral-compatible shingle profiles on our trucks, so a typical repair is done in a single visit.
Here’s how most San Antonio homeowners find out they need this: a spring hailstorm rolls through, or a summer monsoon gust peels back a few shingles, and suddenly there’s a drip in the hallway or granules piling up in the gutter. Boral makes a concrete tile product line, but on the shingle side they made a stone-coated steel product and select asphalt shingle lines before exiting the U.S. shingle market. That exit is exactly why matching matters: stock is getting harder to find, and a bad match is worse than no match at all.
We’re an independent roofing company serving San Antonio, not affiliated with Boral, but we’ve done enough of these repairs to know exactly what to look for and where the matches are still available.
Which Boral Models This Applies To
The Boral product most San Antonio homeowners call us about is Boral Steel stone-coated shingles, which came in profiles like the Mission, Shake, Villa, and Classic tile patterns. We also field calls on Boral’s shorter-lived asphalt shingle line, which was distributed regionally before the company refocused on roofing tile and then exited the U.S. market shift.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha with Boral steel: the profile names sound interchangeable, but they’re not. A Boral Mission replacement piece will not seat correctly on a Shake profile, and the color codes matter more than you’d think because the stone coating is applied in batches that vary slightly. If you have the original packaging or invoice, the profile name and color code are printed on it. No paperwork? Snap a clear photo of the shingle from eye level and we can usually identify it from the profile shape and granule texture.
For the asphalt shingle line, you’re largely dependent on close-match aftermarket products now. That’s not a compromise in quality; it’s just the reality of a discontinued product. We’ll show you the match option before we install anything, and we’ll tell you plainly if a near-match is the best available rather than pretending it’s exact.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your Boral Shingle Repair Is Failing
- Granule loss in the gutter or at the downspout. Stone-coated steel sheds its coating as the acrylic over-stone layer breaks down after years of San Antonio UV exposure and hail impact. If you’re seeing red or gray granules every time it rains, the protective layer is thinning and rust will follow.
- Visible rust streaks or pinholes on the shingle face. Once the stone coating is compromised, the steel substrate starts oxidizing. This is the most common failure we see on Boral Steel roofs in San Antonio that are 15 to 20 years old.
- Curling or lifting at the edges. The factory-applied sealant strip underneath Boral steel shingles fails eventually, and high wind catches the lifted edge. One lifted shingle in a field of secured ones is a tear point waiting for the next storm.
- Water stains on the ceiling or upper wall after a storm. By the time you see the stain, the shingle above it has usually been compromised for a while. The leak often isn’t directly above the stain; water travels along rafters before finding a drop point.
- Cracked or broken shingles after hail. Boral stone-coated steel handles hail better than asphalt, but big Texas hail can still crack the stone coating and dent the steel. A dented panel may still be waterproof; a cracked one generally is not.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For most San Antonio Boral shingle repairs, you’re looking at $325 to $650 for a small patch of a few shingles, and $750 to $1,200 when the repair involves replacing underlayment, battens, or a section of decking. The spread comes down to three things: how many shingles are involved, whether the profile is still in active supply or requires locating matched aftermarket stock, and whether we’re on a single-story or two-story roof with corresponding safety setup.
Every quote we write includes parts and labor together, with the price broken out line by line so you know exactly what you’re paying for. The written price we hand you before work starts is the price on the invoice. Period.
And every repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s in writing, included with every job, no negotiation needed.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do one thing from the ground: take photos. Clear, well-lit shots of the damaged area help us identify the profile and color before we ever set foot on your roof. What you should not do is get up there yourself. Boral steel shingles are heavy, the edges are sharp, and walking on them without knowing which points are structural can damage more panels than you’re trying to fix. Most San Antonio roof pitches are walkable for a trained tech wearing proper fall protection, but they’re not walkable for a homeowner in running shoes.
If you’re reasonably handy, checking your attic for daylight or water marks after a storm is useful information for us. But the actual repair, matching, and sealing? That’s where DIY goes wrong, and a bad seal job on one shingle becomes a $1,200 decking repair the following spring. Call (361) 209-8857 and we’ll schedule a free estimate.
FAQs
Boral stone-coated steel shingles typically last 30 to 50 years, but in San Antonio’s hail-heavy and UV-intense climate we usually see the stone coating begin to fail around the 20-year mark, which is when repairs become necessary. Asphalt Boral shingles, wherever they were installed, followed roughly the 20 to 25 year lifespan of comparable products.
Small cracks in the stone coating can sometimes be spot-sealed with a color-matched acrylic coating, and that’s a repair we’ve done successfully on Boral steel in San Antonio. But if the steel underneath is already rusting or dented, replacement is the only fix that holds. Call (361) 209-8857 and we’ll tell you which one you have after a free inspection.
A typical Boral shingle repair, where we’re replacing a few shingles and resealing the surrounding area, takes half a day on a single-story roof, and that includes setup, repair, cleanup, and before-and-after photos. Two-story work adds time for safety anchor setup. You’ll get a live arrival time and a texted digital invoice when we’re finished.
We stock common Boral Steel profiles and color codes on our trucks and in our San Antonio parts inventory, so most single-visit repairs are doable same-week. For uncommon profiles or color codes that have long been discontinued, we source close-match aftermarket stock and show you the match before installing. We also keep GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed parts on hand for non-Boral work.
