Tamko Shingle Repair: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
Tamko shingle repair in San Antonio typically runs $325 to $680 installed for a standard repair of 10 to 30 damaged shingles, and we stock the common Tamko color blends on our trucks so most jobs wrap up in a single visit. You usually discover the problem the same way every San Antonio homeowner does: after a spring hailstorm or a summer microburst, you spot granules collecting in the gutters, a shingle tab torn loose at the roof edge, or a dark water stain spreading across the ceiling. The good news is that a failed Tamko shingle is rarely a full re-roof situation. Most of what we see is isolated wind lift, nail pops, or impact damage that a trained eye can match and repair the same day, provided the shingle is still in production or we can pull from our local supplier network here in town.
We’re Crestview Roofing Co San Antonio, an independent roofing company. We are not affiliated with Tamko, but we install and repair Tamko shingles alongside GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed, and we know how Tamko’s product lines age in South Texas heat.
Which Tamko Models This Applies To
We repair every Tamko residential shingle line you’re likely to have on a San Antonio roof: Heritage, Heritage Premium, Heritage II, Elite Glass-Seal, and the newer StormFighter FLEX series. The Heritage line is by far the most common in San Antonio neighborhoods, from Alamo Heights to Stone Oak to Helotes, simply because it’s been a builder favorite in Texas for years. If your home was built between 2005 and 2018 by a production builder, there’s a strong chance it carries Heritage or Heritage II shingles, usually in a Weathered Wood, Natural Timber, or Driftwood color blend.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most homeowners don’t know: Tamko has changed color lot formulations over the years, and a bundle bought today in “Weathered Wood” may not match a roof installed in 2008. The granules come from different mineral sources now, and Texas sun fades the original shingles in ways a factory-fresh bundle won’t immediately match. That’s why we photograph the roof, pull a physical sample when possible, and match not just the color name but the current fade and granule blend. On repairs where an exact match is impossible, we’ll tell you before we ever climb the ladder, and we’ll price the options plainly.
For most single-family roofs in the San Antonio area, we use genuine Tamko replacements sourced from our local distributor. Aftermarket equivalents exist, but with Tamko’s pricing being what it is, the savings on a small repair rarely warrants a mismatched shingle that reads as a patch job from the street.

Signs Your Tamko Shingle Repair Is Failing
- Granule loss in the gutters or on the driveway. Tamko shingles shed some granules in their first year, but after that, heavy accumulation means the asphalt layer is oxidizing. In San Antonio UV, this shows up as bare patches on the shingle face, and it accelerates fast once the fiberglass mat is exposed.
- Lifted or flapping shingle tabs along the roof edge. Wind gets under the adhesive strip, especially on south and west-facing slopes that bake all afternoon. Once the seal breaks, the tab flaps in every storm and eventually tears off entirely.
- Water stains on the ceiling after a hard rain. Usually not the shingle itself but failed flashing where the shingles meet a chimney, valley, or vent pipe. Still, we trace the leak upslope and almost always find a Tamko shingle that has lost its seal near the penetration and allowed water to track underneath.
- Curling or cupping shingle corners. This is a Tamko-specific aging pattern we see on roofs over 14 years old in San Antonio. The mat dries out from the underside, the corners curl upward, and wind gets underneath them. It starts cosmetic, but curled corners are a one-way street to full replacement.
- Nail pops pushing shingles upward. Texas temperature swings cause decking to expand and contract. Nails work themselves loose and back out, and the shingle they held now has a raised bump that catches wind and water.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Most Tamko shingle repairs in San Antonio run $325 to $680 installed. Here’s the range is so wide: a simple 6-shingle replacement with one color match in good weather lands at the low end, while a repair that involves chimney re-flashing, a 30-foot valley replacement, or sealant work on a second-story ridge lands at the high end.
- Small shingle repair (6-12 shingles, one slope): $325-$425
- Medium repair (12-30 shingles or one valley, flashing reset): $450-$600
- Larger repair (multiple slopes, chimney flashing, ridge work): $600-$850
Every quote is written before work starts, with the price on the page being the price on the invoice. We don’t do change orders mid-job. The labor includes debris cleanup, a photo report of the finished repair, and a one-year written warranty through our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the repair fails within that year, the second visit is free, no negotiation, in writing, included with every job.

DIY or Call Us?
What you can safely do from the ground or a ladder: identify the failed area, note the shingle color, and check the gutters for granule buildup. That’s useful information when you call. What you should not do is walk the roof. Steep-slope shingle work on a two-story San Antonio home is how we see most of the serious roofing injuries in this trade. A slipped foot on a granule-covered slope, a misjudged step near the ridge, or an unnoticed soft deck sheet can put you in the hospital. Tamko shingle replacement also requires breaking the seal on the surrounding shingles without damaging them, which is harder than it looks and often why DIY patches fail within a year.
If your roof is single-story, low-pitch, and you’re comfortable on a ladder, a 5-shingle patch is doable. Anything beyond that, or anything involving flashing, valleys, or a leak that has already reached the decking, should be handled by a professional. If you’re in the San Antonio area and want a straight answer on what the repair actually needs, call (361) 209-8857 and we’ll tell you what we’d do.
FAQs
Tamko Heritage shingles carry a 30-year limited warranty, but in San Antonio’s heat, UV exposure, and hail cycles, a realistic service life is 15 to 22 years before repairs become frequent and a replacement makes more financial sense. South and west-facing slopes age fastest, sometimes losing useful life 3 to 5 years ahead of the north slope. If you’re past year 18 and chasing repairs every season, we’ll tell you that straight before recommending another patch. Call (361) 209-8857 and we’ll give you an honest assessment with photos.
Small tears and lifted tabs can sometimes be re-sealed with roofing cement and a quick nail reset, but a shingle with granule loss, cracking, or a torn-off tab has failed structurally and needs to be replaced. Re-sealing buys weeks or months, not years. With our 365-Day Done Right Promise on every repair, we’d rather replace the shingle once than re-visit the same patch next spring. For a free assessment, call (361) 209-8857.
Most repairs wrap up in 1 to 3 hours, and we work around your schedule with a live trackable arrival time so you know exactly when we’re coming. Larger repairs involving flashing or valley replacement may take half a day. You’ll get before-and-after photos of the work and a digital invoice sent by text before we leave the driveway.
We stock the most common Tamko color blends, including Weathered Wood, Natural Timber, and Driftwood, on our trucks for San Antonio-area repairs. If your home has a less common Heritage color or an older lot that needs special matching, we pull from our local distributor the same day or the next morning. We’ll know as soon as we look at the roof.
