CertainTeed Shingle Repair: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide

Most CertainTeed shingle repairs in San Antonio run between $350 and $850 installed, depending on how many shingles failed and where they sit on the roof. We stock CertainTeed-compatible shingles on our trucks and can typically complete a standard repair the same day we diagnose it. Most homeowners discover the problem after a storm blows through, or when they spot granules collecting in gutters, or when a shingle tab lifts and flaps in the wind hard enough to hear from inside the house.

Here’s the thing about CertainTeed shingles in this climate: they’re well made, but San Antonio’s heat cycling, sudden downpours, and hail season test every component. A failed seal strip, a cracked tab, or wind-lifted corners mean water is one more storm away from finding plywood. The fix is usually surgical, not a full reroof.

Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To

Most of what we repair in San Antonio falls into three CertainTeed families: the Landmark series (including Landmark Pro and Landmark TL), the XT 25/XT 30 three-tab line, and Presidential Shake when homeowners want that heavier architectural look preserved. The key identifier is the shingle’s width and exposure measurement, plus the color blend stamped on the bundle wrapper. If you kept a bundle wrapper from your original install, that’s gold. If not, we match by pulling a full shingle and checking the nailing strip pattern and granule blend.

On the OEM versus aftermarket question: for CertainTeed specifically, we recommend staying with genuine CertainTeed stock or their certified equivalent whenever possible. The granule blends are proprietary, and a close-but-not-exact color from another mill will show after a year of San Antonio sun. One gotcha to know: CertainTeed changed their Landmark color blends slightly around 2019, so a 2015 Landmark “Weathered Wood” may not match today’s “Weathered Wood” perfectly off the shelf. We carry older stock and can also do a controlled fade-in repair across the slope so the patch doesn’t read as a patch.

Signs Your CertainTeed Shingle Repair Is Failing

  • Granules washing into gutters or collecting at downspout corners. This is the most common early signal in San Antonio. CertainTeed shingles shed some granules in the first year; after that, steady granule loss means the asphalt coat is breaking down from UV exposure. You’re seeing the shingle’s armor coming off.
  • Lifted or flapping tabs after a north-side wind event. That’s the seal strip failing. Once a tab lifts, wind gets under it, catches the next tab, and you get a progressive peel. This is a repair now, replacement later situation.
  • Hairline cracks running vertically through the tab, usually near the center. Repeated thermal expansion and contraction does this. Cracks let water sit on the underlayment, and in San Antonio’s freeze-thaw winter nights, that water expands and accelerates the damage.
  • Nail pops visible from below, or raised nail heads you can see from the ground. Overdriven or backing-out nails pierce the shingle above or create a gap. Any exposed fastener is a water entry point.
  • Soft spots, dimpling, or a wavy roof plane in one section. This is past the shingle: you’re likely into decking. A shingle repair done early prevents this; a reroof paid for later fixes it.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In San Antonio, a targeted CertainTeed shingle repair usually lands in this range:

  • Single torn or cracked tab replacement: $350 – $500, depending on roof pitch and access.
  • Multiple shingle replacement in one slope (3 – 8 shingles): $500 – $850, including color matching and sealant work.
  • Ridge cap or hip shingle repair: $400 – $700, since these shingles have a different profile and can be costlier to source.
  • Full structural repair plus shingles (replacing decking, underlayment, flashing): $900 – $1,400, which starts crossing into a more involved job.

What drives the price: roof pitch (a 7/12 or steeper pitch takes more time and ladder setup), shingle match difficulty on older CertainTeed colorways, whether we’re replacing just the shingles or also repairing the underlayment and flashing around them, and whether the damage identified extends past what you originally called about. Every quote from us is a written price before any work starts, parts and labor itemized. If the number changes, we stop work and call you. That’s rare; it happens maybe when decking underneath is worse than what could be seen from the exterior.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely grab a pair of binoculars and check for lifted, cracked, or missing tabs from the ground, and you can clean granules and debris out of the gutter yourself. That’s where the safe version of DIY ends for this particular repair. Shingle work on a San Antonio roof means climbing a pitched surface, often in heat that turns the decking into a griddle, and if it’s a steep roof or a two-story, one slip is catastrophic. High-angle roof work, or any repair near an edge or skylight, belongs to a trained professional. We do not recommend working on a pitched roof without fall protection, and we say that to people who cash us quotes every week.

If you want a set of eyes on it before you climb anything, call (361) 209-8857. We’ll send a technician, walk the roof, document what we find, and hand you a written number for the repair.
